Privacy Notice
We built this magazine to be read, not to watch its readers. This notice explains the small amount of personal data involved when you visit, why it exists and what you can ask us to do with it.
1. The setup in plain words
The site is made of static pages. When you open an article, your browser receives a finished page and its images and fonts, all delivered from our own domain. There is no login, no comment section, no shopping cart and no database storing visitor profiles.
Just as important is what is missing:
- no analytics software counting or profiling visitors,
- no advertising and no ad networks,
- no tracking pixels, fingerprinting or session recording,
- no embedded social media buttons that report back to a platform.
2. Hosting logs
Like any website, ours runs on servers operated by a hosting provider. To deliver pages and protect the service from misuse, those servers automatically record basic request data: your IP address, the date and time, the page or file requested, the response, and the browser's user-agent string. We do not use these logs to identify readers or build profiles. They are kept briefly for security and troubleshooting and then deleted on the provider's routine schedule.
3. The cookie banner choice
The banner at the edge of the screen asks you to accept or decline. Whatever you choose is saved in your browser's localStorage so you are not asked again on every page. That single entry stays on your device; it is not sent to us or to anyone else. The cookie notice describes how to clear it.
4. When you email us
If you write to us using the address on the contact page, or the short form there that opens your own email program, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and your message. We use these only to read and reply. We do not add anyone to a mailing list, and we delete correspondence once it is no longer needed, generally within a couple of years.
5. Legal basis
For readers in the European Union, the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, we process the data above on the basis of legitimate interest: keeping the website secure and working, and answering people who contact us. Given how little is involved, we consider that this does not outweigh your rights.
6. Your rights under the GDPR
You may ask us to:
- tell you whether we hold personal data about you and give you a copy,
- correct anything inaccurate,
- delete your data,
- restrict or object to how it is processed,
- hand it over in a portable format.
Send requests to the email address on our contact page. We answer within the time limits set by law. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
7. Younger readers
The magazine is aimed at adults, and we do not knowingly collect information from children.
8. Updates
If the way the site works changes, for example if we ever added a new feature that handled data differently, this notice would be updated before the change goes live. The terms for using the content are on the usage terms page.
